A marijuana tincture is a great way to ingest cannabis without smoking or eating it. The effects lie somewhere between smoking a joint and eating an edible and the duration can last up to four hours. Unlike extracts, marijuana tinctures are alcohol based meaning they are not meant for vaporizing.
Today we’ll be covering the basics on how you can make a marijuana tincture at home.
How to Make a Marijuana Tincture – Ingredients
- Cannabis
- 90 Proof Alcohol (or a very strong rum)
- Sealable Mason Jar
- Cheesecloth
- Oven Ready Tray
- Oven
It’s best to get cannabis with a lot of trichomes. While “dirt weed” can be turned into a tincture, we recommend quality over quantity.
Hot to Make a Marijuana Tincture – The Process
Next, we’ll move onto actually making the marijuana tincture at home. The first thing you’ll want to is decarb your weed. For those who don’t know what decarbing is, it’s the process of activating the THC and turning it from its acid form into its psychoactive form.
To do this, you’ll grind up your weed and place it on an oven-ready tray. The ones used for pies work perfectly. Pre-heat your oven to 170º F and then place the weed in there for about fifteen minutes.
Quickly remove your cannabis and place it in your sealable jar. Now, fill the jar to the brim with your alcohol and mix it together. Seal the jar and let it sit in a dark cupboard for about a week.
After the week is finished, you’ll strain the mixture with the cheesecloth into a new clean container. To make it easy for ingesting, we recommend getting a dropper and filling it up.
You can take the rest of the remaining tincture and store it for later use.
How to Consume a Marijuana Tincture
The tincture serves multiple purposes. Firstly, it’s great for disinfecting wounds and sores. If you have scratches or insect bites, simply rub a bit of it on the affected area and rub it in.
In the case of actually consuming it, the best way is to take 2-3 drops sublingually. This means you’ll drop the drops underneath your tongue and let it absorb.
It should take about 15-30 minutes for you to feel the effects of the tincture. It won’t be as hardcore as an edible and will be slightly more powerful than a joint. We recommend starting off slowly and finding your tincture sweet spot.
Benefits of Tinctures
Marijuana Tinctures allows you to store your cannabis for a long time. It’s also incredibly simple to make and allows you to measure your cannabis intake effectively. It’s perfect for people who need an on-the-go solution for all their cannabis needs.
