We’re reaching a point in human history where we are returning back to implementing the full uses of cannabis. In this part of our Marijuana Politics series, we’re going to be talking about the current developments that are occurring.
Specifically, we’re going to be talking about the Warren-Gardner Bill or the STATES bill that is making rounds within the U.S government.
What is the Warren-Gardner Bill?
Additionally, this bill aims to provide a secure banking avenue for the cannabis industry, which is absolutely necessary. It’s a good day in Marijuana Politics when bills like these are growing in popularity.
Even President Trump chimed in and said that he is probable to support the bipartisan initiative. It would make sense for him to support the bill seeing that it won’t legalize cannabis, just provided much needed protections for the multi-billion dollar industry which is currently cash-based.
Seeing that Trump isn’t a very popular president, making a move on cannabis and granting more powers to the industry would be a major move for his image.
The bill only has a few limitations to it;
- There needs to be an age limit to legal purchases
- Cannabis can’t be sold near highway rest stops
There are other issues as well; however, these are the main two points that will need to be enforced for a state to qualify.
There is a lot of support in congress and the senate in relation to this bill, so the likelihood of it passing is quite high now.
What would this mean for Marijuana Politics if the bill passes?
With countries like Canada already having legal cannabis on the books, it is only logical that other countries would follow. For instance, Mexico also has medical cannabis legalized. If Canada and the United States have lax marijuana policies on the books…it wouldn’t be unheard of for Mexico to follow suit.
The United States have acted as the world’s policeman when it comes to drugs and if they take a softer stance on marijuana, the world will change their policies as well.
We’re entering into a new dawn of cannabis industry; out of obscurity and into the light. When legal banking comes into play, there will be no stopping the industry from flourishing worldwide.
Final Thoughts
We’re living in exciting times folks. People have been saying for decades now that “marijuana will be legal in the next five years”. However, for the first time they might be right. We’re closer to a global legal framework for cannabis users everywhere.
